What is Focus About?

Focus is a Christian conference for young adults in their 20's and 30's. We come together twice a year (spring and autumn) in the lovely Castledaly Manor near Athlone.

The weekend provides a scenic and serene setting to learn and grow in the word and have some fun and fellowship with like-minded Christians. The aim of the weekend is to 'focus' our hearts and minds on things above and encourage us in our daily walk with Christ.

If you think it's time to focus then this is the weekend for you!

Background

Focus Conference was started in 2016 by a group of friends from Evangelical, Reformed Presbyterian and Baptist backgrounds. It was born out of a desire for young Christians from across Ireland to come together to focus on Christ and continue to faithfully serve Him in the places He has them.

Vision

Focus Conference is an evangelical initiative in Ireland to expose young adults to good Bible teaching. The driving ethos behind Focus Conference is that God speaks to his church today through faithful exposition of the Bible. When God’s word is opened, read, and faithfully explained, God speaks.

We run Focus Conference weekends twice a year with a summer social in between. Focus aims to create a regular meeting place for Christian fellowship and edification through God’s word. Our vision is that young adults from across Ireland would have a place to meet other like-minded Christians and build each other up in the faith.

What We Believe

God – That there is one God, who exists as three different but equal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Divine Persons in this Holy Trinity exist in perfect unity, are co-equal, co-eternal and are sovereign in creation, providence and redemption.

The Bible – That the Bible is the infallible, inerrant Word of God, and there is no better guide on earth as to what we should believe and how we should live our lives.

Man & the Fall – That as a result of the Fall all people are sinful by nature. Sin pollutes and infects every part of their being, renders them unable to please God by their own efforts, makes them guilty in the sight of a holy God, and subject to the penalty which, in His wrath and condemnation, He has decreed against it.

Salvation - That through faith alone in Christ alone the sinner is freely justified by God. The death of Christ was the final perfect sacrifice for our sins, and no sacrifice for sins remains to be offered today. On the basis of Christ’s sacrifice once offered, God forgives all our sins, and credits Christ’s righteousness to our account. Salvation is therefore a gift from God, and not a human achievement.

The Return of Christ - that the Lord Jesus Christ will return to this earth to raise all the dead, both the just and the unjust. As the righteous Judge he will divide all men into two - the saved and the lost. Those whose faith is in Christ will be saved eternally and will enter immediately into the joy of their Lord sharing with Him his inheritance in heaven. The unbeliever will be condemned by Him to hell, where they will experience eternal conscious punishment for their sins under the righteous judgment of God.

Being a Christian – That it is the duty of Christians by the help of the Holy Spirit to strive to put to death sin and to live a life of glory based on what God has written in His Word. We believe that good works are the fruit and evidence of a true and living faith. By these, believers express their thankfulness to God, make the gospel attractive and demonstrate Christ’s love in the world. The believer’s ability to do good works comes not from himself but from the Holy Spirit who is at work in him.
